Another School Shooting: The Gun Violence/Mental Illness Debate Continues
by jp1692 inin the aftermath of the valentine's day school shooting in florida, i have read quite a number of articles, blogs and posts about the event.
it is disturbing--and i think inexcusable--that many people take the opportunity to use horrible tragedies such as this to push their own particular agenda.. in particularly insensitive and tone-deaf tweet, conservative political commentator tomi lahren wrote: "can the left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda?

Cold Steel
The Bible, the U.S. Constitution, even the Second Amendment have something in common. They were written by HUMANS, who were addressing problems of their society in their own time. None is infallible and all of those documents would be outdated if it were not for the fact we explicitly or implicitly amend them.
The short version: The hell with the Second Amendment if you are trying to sell it to me as gospel. It ain't.

Watchtower practice of shunning relatives -- when did it begin?
by FatFreek 2005 inthe oldest reference i can find is 2012, as follows:.
"think of that if you are ever tempted to violate god’s command not to associate with your disfellowshipped relatives.
" the watchtower 2012, 4/15/ p. 12 par.

Shunning started in 1939 with Olin R. Moyle, the Watchtower lawyer who sued Judge Rutherford. He won the lawsuit, but his JW family and "friends" wouldn't talk to him. He was a famous apostate who preceded Ray Franz apostasy case by more than 40 years

Blood Issue.......something for thought, where is the logic.
by CovertsadJW ini have yet to read about the contradictions in the jw teachings on blood, but i have personally witnessed one.
i am a medical professional and have seen hemopure administered for an active jw who did refuse a blood transfusion.
its not fda approved here, but given in special life saving circumstances.

Crazyguy,"Actually a JW can have human hemoglobin"
Somehow your assertion doesn't fit with the little that I know about Watchtower's policies on blood. I am sure others with more knowledge have something to say.

The cult is a big factor, but the person mental health is even bigger. Cults tend to attract people who already have mental problems. They just a need little push to commit acts that most cult members would never think of doing. Sad, mainly because she took the lives of innocent people who very likely wanted to live. This is the part where I have to put the blame mostly on the individual's chemistry more than the cult.

Lisa Rose,
Having limited resources is often a valid answer to failures of law enforcement, and yet the pro tax-cuts people will not even consider that as a possibility in this case. Don't assume that I am a "lefty"; that's far from the truth. I fit better with Libertarians than with any other group. I just find the Republican increasingly hypocritical. They dress themselves as the party of good old fashion Christian values, but I don't see that at all. Cutting taxes without cutting expenses burdens our children with a huge national debt. Neglecting doing something about climate change affects our children and grand children far more than it affects our own generation. And this business of relaxed gun control is having a much greater effect in the young than in the old. I would have assumed that Christian values meant to care for others, but the current generation of Republicans don't seem to be very inclined to the well being of coming generations.

Gun advocates will tell you that guns are for defense purposes. Obviously (to NRA members), defending yourself may require that you have tons of ammunition and dozens of automatic weapons. After all, we know that Armageddon is coming and having a hand gun is not going to be enough in those circumstances. Bunch of lefties, how dare they suggest to restrict having as many automatic weapons as I want and thousands of rounds of ammunitions. It's against the second amendment. (sarcasm, of course)

Is Satan Real ?
by jdash ini've been pondering on this question for awhile now, and i'm starting to think this malevolent spirit creature isn't real.
.
do you guys believe satan is real?
-
never a jw
Yes, he is real. I think God created him to blame all the evil He had done and will continue doing after the time of Satan's creation, sometime in the Persian period. Before Satan's birth, he was only an employee of God doing his will (Angel of Yahweh) with similar name.
Compare 1 Chronicles 21:1 (Satan's first and only evil act in the old testament) to 2 Samuel 24:1 (the real evil doer)
By the time of the new testament Satan had had a lot of practice and had become really good at evil doing. Today, pretty much every evil act is caused by Satan and every good act is done by God. But any discerning person knows that the buck stops with God because he created Satan.
Did I make any sense???
